This blog post analyzes the impact of frametime spikes during specific events in first-person shooter (FPS) games, showing that such spikes can significantly affect player performance and experience. A study conducted with participants revealed that spikes during targeting reduced accuracy, while spikes during reloading and mouse movements primarily degraded user experience without impacting performance. The findings suggest that both the timing and size of these spikes are crucial for understanding quality of experience (QoE) in gaming.
