This post introduces a novel bit provenance abstract domain aimed at optimizing bit manipulation in programming, discussing its implementation, evaluation, and comparison with existing optimization methods. The method allows for tracking the origin of each bit within variables, enabling significant optimizations by eliminating redundant operations. An evaluation with PyPy and Pydrofoil demonstrates the effectiveness of the approach, suggesting potential benefits over traditional optimization techniques.
