NTT and Mitsui Leasing are collaborating on the $500 million Intra-Asian Marine Cable (IAMC), a 16 fibre pair subsea cable with a design capacity of 320 Tbps. This project highlights the shift from large carrier consortiums to partnerships with cash-rich non-telecom companies, which can streamline decision-making and reduce risks. The IAMC features innovative designs to improve digital infrastructure in the region, allowing direct routing of traffic to multiple landing points in Asia, enhancing network efficiency and resiliency.
