Japanese Break Bandwidth Record: 450 Tbps On A Single Standard Fibre Pair

The National Institute of IT and Communication Technology (NICT) in Japan has achieved a remarkable 450 Tbps bandwidth on a single fibre pair, utilizing a wider spectrum range beyond the traditional C and L bands. This advancement required the development of new optical amplifiers optimized for various frequency bands, addressing challenges like optical power loss and repeater distance. NICT's research aims to pave the way for commercial adoption of these higher transmission rates.
