Mathias Eberle has created BASCOMP, a single-pass self-compiling BASIC compiler for DOS that generates size optimized COM files targeting 8086/8088. It produces NASM-compatible code, with a unique assembler written in BASIC to support the entire toolchain. Despite leveraging coding AI for development, it may not be included in FreeDOS. The project is openly available on GitHub under the CC0 license.
