A recent research implies that electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) helps depressed patients to forget out their painful memories. By inhibiting memory recall process using ECT, researchers found that participants' ability to remember details of painful memory was impaired. Moreover, they found that the effect of ECT was dependent on time, so that therapy might be effective for prolonged time.
